bum living

I've been in school since I was 4 (3 if you count the slight attendance of pre-school) and I've been working since I was 17 (and looked for a job the day after I turned 16). So is it too much to ask that I slack off a little? After all, my plate has ALWAYS been full. So in reality I'm not really slacking off. I'm just taking a break from my Asian-ic work ethic and working to the capacity of my choosing rather than forcing. Why is it then that I feel like a bum? I guess it's due to a lack of being overworked that makes me feel under-worked.
I have my lover to partially thank for my current work ethic. He showed me that it's okay to make something other than work your priority. It's okay to not judge yourself by other peoples' standards and you don't need to please anyone else more than you please yourself. Maybe I've taught myself these things, but I would have never learned them if I hadn't taken time off to be with him. So thank you hun. You didn't make me a slacker, you just made me realize that I should appreciate the time I have here on earth rather than waste it by working myself to the point of exhaustion.
Sure I won't be the richest person in the world or the most "successful." But I will have something that many lack, which is a sense of pride in myself and a memory full of happiness in the long run.

Maybe I feel a little guilty for taking so much time off from work. .. but I've never had a chunk of time all to myself.. nor does it seem like I will ever. As for those who overwork themselves and believe that I should too, avert your judging eyes and take a look in the mirror instead and ask yourself if you've spent your time in a way that you wouldn't regret anything on the day your days ended.

  2. Never feel like you should be working! Sometimes it is a fantastic idea to take some time off. I moved from London to Sydney for a year, working and playing. I enjoyed the playing part so much that when I returned to London 4 months ago, I decided to chill for a bit. It has been the best 4 months of my life and I have really gotten to know myself.
I will never regret that as long as I live, because I'll only live once!
