taco tuesdays& Haiti

i am young. twenty one. i attend a university with mindless drones that wear the same t-shirts and bags that display a few greek letters that own their entire life. i belong to a generation that decided synthesizers were creative and shaking your ass on the dance floor in a skank-ass dress is no longer distasteful, but necessary in order to be a part of the in-crowd. my generation also believes in spending whole paychecks on clothes they don't need, starving themselves as a way to save money and look good, using drugs [well, that was everyone's generation].. and finding any short cut through life.
i am young. but i don't feel like i fit in with my generation. i prefer soulful voices, clever lyrics, conservative clothes combined with pin-up girl make up, natural hair color, reading the new york times health section, spandex shorts and reebox, achieving goals, nights at home watching movies, and saving money [although that has proved harder than it sounds].
i am young. and all i aspire to do as i age is to help others. i want to make money sure, but not for selfish wants.. but because i want to be able to donate to those in need at any given time. i want to be able to take a day to just serve someone else's cause.
i want to get away from this ego-centric lifestyle being thrust in my face at every corner i turn.
to the left you will see a haiti link, in case you have the funds to help someone else out.
[and no disrespect to haiti, but where was all the effort when the philippines was going through a natural disaster? how come it took so long for aid to reach americans when hurricane katrina hit? and whatever happened to thailand?] can we stop being so selective and instead give our best efforts to all? too much to ask for?
