currently reading: Beyond Happiness by Ezra Bayda
insightful to say the least, this book offers ideas of common sense in a wise and thought provoking way.
in trying to put these ideas into practice, i will discontinue avoiding my thoughts with the false hope that they will go away, and instead will observe them. if it should so take me down into depths i dared not enter before, so be it. living out of fear, anger, or depression is simply just not living. denying the existence of these emotions does not help to solve the problem. so, i will allow myself to feel regardless of how painful it may be.
with all the natural disasters that have been happening in the past years, i developed a habit of avoiding the news. as it so happens, i was near a tv when news of the tsunami came about. my heart feels drowned in sadness at the despair of Japan and at the ignorance of Americans who sickly suggest that "Japan had it coming" in reference to pearl harbor. i can't stand my people sometimes. i only hope that outsiders do not judge us all based on a few (a few too many) misguided reactions. some of us still have compassion flowing through our veins and wish nothing but a speedy recovery for all affected.
